Nelson and I just photographed the most special wedding of my career to date. And it was a wedding I said I’d never photograph…one of my siblings’ weddings.
Joel & Lisa’s original wedding date was set for March. It was going to be held in the breath taking mountains above Eager Arizona, the little Round Valley that was our childhood hometown. The venue would have been a dream, the photographer would be a close friend of mine, the views spectacular and the reception in a stunning mountain lodge ballroom. I mean, Pinterest would have drooled.
But, like for so many couples of 2020 and now 2021…plans had to change.
We pulled together an intimate wedding with what we had in only a matter of days. Huge shout out to Lisa for being on it with her wedding planning…she already had her dress altered, her Ariat Dixon Boots broke in and the matching Mercy Grey Design jackets for her and her bridesmaids already delivered.
And in the end, we still got to take the couples portraits at the original mountain venue.
It was a team effort, both sides of the family coming together to make it happen, laughing and getting to know each other in the process.
One of my favorite details from the wedding day is the “arbor” for the ceremony that made a second appearance as the backdrop to the sweetheart table. Lisa is the creative behind @lisann.crafted, her side hustle where she builds stunning wood art. And in the final hours leading up to the wedding day Lisa, our dad and her bestie finished this masterpiece together.
I could go on and on about all the things I loved. The special meaning behind our grandma’s turquoise or the rugs and blankets on the walls. How absolutely adorable the ring bearer and flower girl were (our kiddos). Or how much fun we had with the Peterbilt and Bubbles Exit.
But no one is here to read this, they just want to see the pictures right?
Ps. There were so many friends and family who were unable to make it due to restrictions and short notice. Each one of you was dearly missed. And thank you for everyone who joined LIVE to celebrate from afar! We hope you enjoy these photos and that through them you get a true glimpse of Joel & Lisa’s happiness.
