I met Greta in jail. I’m not joking.
My family had just recently moved to Ohio during the dead of winter and being the true south-westerners that we are had struggled to connect with the Buckeye fans we’d met thus far…I mean we had NEVER been to a football game or even watched one on TV. Most people would just star at us in horror and loose all interest in visiting with the freaks who couldn’t understand the basics of Ohio conversation.

I can’t even remember why our families were at the jail, but it had something to do with a church ministry. (I do remember I’d got in trouble because I’d forgotten to remove my pocket knife before going through security.) After the function was over my family headed out to the dreary parking-lot and were almost to our van when a snowballs hit us from behind. What ensued after that was a snowball fight with complete strangers…Greta’s utterly insane and completely fun loving family.

It was history after that. Thankful to finally find some down-to-earth country people we had much in common with, (minus whole Buckeye stuff and nonsense) we spent the next year of our time in Ohio enjoying Uno games, late nights filled with laughter, picnics and 3am donut deliveries with this ridiculous bunch.

A few days ago it dawned on me that it has been 10 years since my families brief time living in the Buckeye State. So many things have changed and so many things have stayed the same! Greta still remains the down-to-earth girl with amazing curly hair and a smile that lights up the world and warms of everyone around her. It was so wonderful to meet Adam, hear their whirlwind love story and see how he matches Greta’s laughter and bubbling joy so perfectly!

Raven Run Nature Sanctuary provided the perfect place for this session! The park is hidden on the outskirts of Lexington Kentucky and was a perfect halfway point between Ohio and Tennessee! Adam & Greta were troopers, allowing me to drag them allllllll the way to the back of the soggy park for images at the take-your-breath-away Evans Mills, complete with waterfalls and moss. Yes. Moss makes a New Mexico girl very happy.
