After getting a recommendation from a stranger in Texas, Amy’s dad had started coming to New Mexico to hunt elk with the Carters, a ranch family full of hunting guides. A few years later Amy followed suite and Chane was the guide that helped her get her first elk.
More years went by and the two families friendship grew with Chane and Amy’s parents camping and traveling often together. Then three years ago Chanes bother invited Amy out from Arkansas to help brand calves…dropping not so subtle hints that Chane was single.
After branding Amy knew Chane was headed out to work fence and she’d been trying her best to get him to invite her along…but he was utterly oblivious. And as everyone dispersed, she found herself alone and kicking rocks at the camp.
Meanwhile, Chane was getting some advice from his son and together they decided he should ask Amy out. But when he called the landline at the camp where Amy was and invited her to a movie and dinner in town, she didn’t even hesitate to say, “No.” After a long pause he just said, “Oh.” Then she laughed and told him how she knew a movie and dinner “in town” would NOT be his idea of a perfect date.
So the next day he packed a picnic in a dirty old cooler and they headed out for a drive in the mountains where he showed her the world he loved while they talked about everything. That night when they ended up at Chanes folks place his dad called Amy’s dad back in Arkansa and said “How do you say in-laws in Spanish?”
Chane and Amy are planning a truly meaningful wedding ceremony on the ranch and the more they told me about it the more excited I got! Can’t wait to load up my camera’s and teepee for their special day!
