“Edit your life frequently and ruthlessly. It’s your masterpiece after all.” – Nathan W. Morris
I love that quote!
Traditionally, the end of the year is always a good time to sit down and “edit” my life. Not because my life changes all that dramatically, but sometimes it just needs a little bit of fine tuning to match the direction that I’m going! Our dreams, values and goals tend to change and evolve over the years.
When I was 8 I wanted to be a bird watcher/photographer, when I was 12 I wanted to be like cowboy photographer David R. Stoecklein and then when I was 22 I fell completely and utterly in love with wedding photography. It all revolved around photography, but my dreams and goals grew and changed as I did.
So this year I’m sharing a few things I am editing into or out of the upcoming year!
1. I am choosing to concentrate my energy on what I LOVE, not just what I like.
I will be focusing on a very specific style of wedding. Because while I like a lot of things, I’ve decided I only have time in life to focus on what TRUELY gets me fired up and excited. Don’t get me wrong, I am awe struck by crystal, ballrooms and exotic menus…but I am the most comfortable in a beautifully decorated barn with red-solo cups and BBQ.
So basically, if I have to choose between Prada and cowboy boots…I’m going with the boots.
2. My passions are getting married and becoming one.
I can’t tell you how many times in the last 3 years I said “I love it, but cowboy-lifestyle photography just doesn’t pay the bills right now, so I’m focusing on weddings.” Somewhere along the way I listened to the wrong advice when someone said I couldn’t mix rugged cowboys and elegant weddings and be successful. I know. Here’s to the dumb things we believe are true and thank God for those moments when we realize how stupid we sound.
Hence the reason you’ll notice my two Instagram are now just one.
3. There is no three because I’m going to spend my weekends unplugged.
And I think 9:30 on Friday night is a good time to actually unplug!
